Recognize The Gift

I have often wondered if what disqualifies me for success in the eyes of the world, is oddly attractive to God. Maybe He chose me precisely because others would not have. Maybe my brokenness and frailties are His prerequisites.

The Bible says that God chooses the weak things of the world to shame the strong and the foolish things of the world to shame the wise (1 Cor 1:25-29). Maybe that’s what He could do with me… “shame the strong and wise”. Maybe that’s what He could do with you, too.

The Words of Critics:

Many of us have been told all our life that we can’t, that we won’t or that we shouldn’t. Over time you may have believed this line of reasoning. These words can become watermarks etched in our memories… the images and expressions that undermine our faith; but God refuses such words! He is bold to refute those can’t and won’t and shouldn’ts in our memory.

God has put something inside of each of us… to display His Purposes!

  • In defiance, God takes the outcast and does the outstanding!
  • He takes the misfit and does the miraculous!
  • He takes the improbable and does the impossible!

He rules in the midst of weakness!

The Apostle Paul said it would be this way; that grace would reign in the midst of frailty (Rom 5:17). Nobody needs another example of perfection… Jesus did this for all of us. We need authenticity and when people see that in us… well, let’s just recognize the gift and honor Him for His mercy.

Can I Get a Witness?

“Return home and tell how much God has done for you. So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.” (Lk. 8:38-39)

Jesus sent him away saying, “Can I get witness… would you stay and testify to all that God has done for you?” We must catch this! God has designed that the Gospel be expressed through the vehicle of our testimony. When we show up with a fresh word of God’s goodness, extraordinary things happen; power is released to lead people to faith in Jesus.

The word “testimony” is a legal term. The dictionary says it’s an “outward sign”, “evidence in support of a fact or statement” and/or “proof”. Our personal testimony stands as proof of the truth of the Gospel… evidence that it is life-changing Good News. The root word for testimony, comes from a word meaning “witness”. Our testimony provides a witness to others of what Jesus has done for us. And what He has done for us, He can do for others!

More than Words:

Testimonies speak of encounter! Your testimony is the story of how you first encountered Jesus! Lives are changed when we encounter Christ. Accepting Jesus, as Lord and Savior calls us into a new realm of reality (Jn. 1:12). When we tell our story and testify to the change that happens when sins get washed away, our experience powerfully illustrates the Gospel Message. Its good news to those who feel overwhelmed by their frailty and it offers hope to those who cannot save themselves. The ongoing stories of God’s Divine intervention in our lives have tremendous power to stir faith in the heart of the seeker.

Jesus expects us to become a witness (Acts 1:8)… talk about Him!

  • How Jesus impacts your life every day…
  • Answers you have experienced through prayer…
  • What God has spoken to you…
  • How you have seen Him at work in your life each day.

Through hearing someone’s experience in God’s grace, we relate to the spiritual thought that God is moving and active by way of the Holy Spirit. In fact, often a friend’s witness is the only clear explanation of the Gospel people will listen to. Most of us want to know what is taking place in our lives. What it requires of us is that we “keep it real”. People are not fooled by the hype… and they are not really scared by the “mystery”… but if they are expected to believe what we tell them; then it needs to be truth! God will empower the Truth!

The Psalmist David said, “He has put a new song in my mouth, praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.” (Ps. 40:3)

God’s Pleasure

“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.” (Eph. 5:17-18)

“For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.” (Ps. 149:4)

“…That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Eph. 3:17-19)

It is important to realize that your pleasure is God’s pleasure, because you are God’s delight. His goal is your heart… to dwell there and to allow His love to find its deepest root system there! He loves you with an unconditional love and all of His thoughts toward you are good (Jer. 29:11). You can’t live beyond God’s knowledge and you can’t hide from His Presence… He will never leave you and He will always be found waiting for you (Isa. 30:18).

7 Things That Bring Pleasure to God:

1. The Prosperity of His People:

  • (Psalm 35:27) Let those who favor my righteous cause and have pleasure in my uprightness shout for joy and be glad and say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, Who takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. (Amplified Version)

2. Ministers Doing His Will:

  • (Psalm 103:21) Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, all you His hosts, you His ministers who do His pleasure. (Amplified Version)

3. Men and Women that Fear Him:

  • (Psalm 147:11) The Lord takes pleasure in those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy and loving-kindness. (Amplified Version)

4. His People Walking by Faith:

  • (Hebrews 11:1-2) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

5. Giving His Kingdom To His Children:

  • (Luke 12:32) Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom! (Amplified Version)

6. Saints Enjoying God’s Fullness:

  • (Ephesians 1:5) For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [ because it pleased Him and was His kind intent (Amplified Version)
  • (Ephesians 1:9) Making known to us the mystery (secret) of His will (of His plan, of His purpose). [And it is this:] In accordance with His good pleasure (His merciful intention) which He had previously purposed and set forth in Him, (Amplified Version)

7. Giving People The Desires of Their Heart:

  • (Philippians 2:13) [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. (Amplified Version)
  • (2 Thessalonians 1:11) With this in view we constantly pray for you, that our God may deem and count you worthy of [your] calling and [His] every gracious purpose of goodness, and with power may complete in [your] every particular work of faith (faith which is that leaning of the whole human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness). (Amplified Version)

A Saturation Point

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.” (Acts 2:2)

What is a Saturation Point?

Lord show us Your Glory! The Church was birthed in the rain… under an outpouring of the Holy Spirit’s Anointing! Peter speaks into the rain with a saturated message and 3,000 people get saved (Acts 2:40-41). Can I just say that it isn’t really about how clever our sermons might be or how well we are programmed. Its all about whether we have reached our saturation point. If we have a lot of God in our midst, then a lot of things take place!

The Movement of the Holy Spirit:

Today there is a prayer movement, a youth movement, a praise and worship movement and a renewal movement… all being stirred by the Holy Spirit. God is shaking the nations, from large groups to home groups and from street corners to college campuses… there is a fire being unleashed with authentic supernatural encounters. In some of the most dangerous places of the world the Holy Spirit is moving in power and might. Its not really that unusual… as recorded in the book of Acts (Acts 8:4-8). God has always been up to something… if there was an openness to the Holy Spirit. Testimonies are being communicated to our ministry here at RevivalHut that boggle the mind. Groups of young people gather to pray for the sick, ordinary people willing to ask God to do the impossible and chasing about the countryside for “seasons of rain”. We are watching the nations arise with a greater thirst than ever before!

Jesus shouts “Is anyone thirsty?” (Jn. 7:37-39)

Like the Days of Elijah:

Ordinary people are listening with anticipation… as those who are waiting for the abundance of rain. On the platforms of many churches the professional clergy overlook the obvious while those with no formal pulpit are hearing thunder in the distance. It feels like the days of Elijah, when the Prophet’s heartfelt petition was met with a cloud the size of a man’s hand. I believe we are in for a deluge… and its time for all of us to display our thirst. Like dry and empty vessels, we need an outpouring that will completely fill us up. There have been seasons when we have experienced the sprinkles that brought renewal, but its the day of total saturation that will lead us into revival. The longing of my heart is for the Body of Christ to reach its saturation point and come alive with the rain of Heaven.

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…” (Acts 2:4)

Knowing God’s Favor

The Bible tells us that Abraham was known by God. Abraham saw the Lord and His angels. Once the Lord sent three of His angels to communicate His plans and share His purposes with Abraham (Gen. 18:1-3). When Abraham saw the angels he ran to meet them, bowed down and greeted them with these words,

  • “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.”

Abraham knew that the presence of angels meant access to God’s favor and the fulfilment of His Promise. God was bringing increase into his house, giving him a promised son and making him a blessing to the generations that would follow his example of faith.

Blessing and Favor:

There are some things that money cannot buy… one of them is favor. When God’s favor is on your life, wonderful things will happen to you and for you. Favor will take you where nothing else can take you. Favor can open doors and prevent calamity. Favor can help you do more with less. Favor can make a way where there is no way! The good news is that every Child of God who walks by faith is given access to favor. Favor is what makes the impact of a promise carry blessing for generations. God watches over His Word to perform it (Jer. 1:12)… because He watches over you.

Watching is Favoring:

God was watching over Abraham based upon the Promise He had made to bless Abraham and his descendants through Isaac (Gen. 17:19). Not only to Abraham; but God also spoke to Isaac personally to confirm this amazing favor. God promised Isaac that He would favor him in the same way that He had favored his father Abraham (Gen. 26:2-6). Blessing comes to Abraham and Isaac as an empowerment to prosper, because of God’s watchfulness and supernatural hand upon the Promises made. Blessing always goes hand in hand with favor. In order to be blessed by someone, you must first be favored by them.

And who better to be favored by… than God?!

Recognizing Favor:

You can recognize the favor by the blessing! Abraham was known as the wealthiest man in all the land. He exibited favor as a man of faith! As a spiritual descendant of Abraham and a Child of God, God has promised to favor you and bless you. When you embrace God’s Word; His principles and His wisdom, you will automatically find His favor as well. When you seek His mercy, kindness, and truth and reject and shut out all hatred, selfishness, deliberate hypocrisy, and falsehood, then you will not only find favor, but also good understanding and high esteem in the sight of God and man as well!

“When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Prov. 16:7)

God’s favor on your life translates into favor with man as well. Doors will open and opportunities will come. Blessings will run after you! Even sinners will say “yes” to you when they would have said “no” to everyone else. God will send His Spirit and His angels to cause favor to shine on you… from every direction and in all your ways.

Expect God’s favor to be on your life even as it followed Abraham… because faith in Christ activates the Promise! (Rom. 4:13-25)
