Be Different

This short teaching was sent to me by one of our pastors in Nairobi, Kenya and I wanted to pass it along. Perhaps it will encourage you today as you ponder your position before others. God has made each of us unique in our ministries… based upon more than just skills. You are anointed for greatness as a Kingdom Agent in the Earth – so allow yourself to experience the peace of God as the “blessing” God has called you to be.

  • Joseph was a wonderful model of realizing destiny in a world of identity confusion! Although he had experienced some wounds from rejection and false accusation, he was able to find God’s destiny through his unique journey. Joseph said, “God sent me before you (speaking to his brothers) to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharoah and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.” (Gen. 45:7-8)
  • Daniel was a powerful example of character when everyone else looks to conform to the world. The Bible says, “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” (Dan. 1:8)

Thank you, Apostle Patrick Makokha. I am proud to be your friend in ministry!

Remind Yourself: There is a Special Person Inside You!

A. Joseph & Daniel were different: If you read their stories, it is easy to see that they stood out from others in the crowd because of their commitment to God. Their character and in their communication were keys in opening the doors of destiny for the future. Although they were often misunderstood, or even hated at times; they discovered God’s heart!

B. Being different is socially unacceptable: The secret to popularity is conformity. The world tells us that to get along, you must go along. This is the siren cry of the world. Everyone wants to fit in, everyone wants to be accepted.

C. Being different is OK: While the world calls us to conform, the Bible gives us a far different message. The Bible warns us against conformity! “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Rom. 12:1-2). This passage literally means, “Do not let the world press you into its mold.”

D. Be different, because you are different: The main reason why you should be different is because you are special and uniquely formed in your mother’s womb. God made you an individual, with your own DNA; and you do not have to conform to the crowd. There are those who aim to please whatever crowd they get around. They worship with the saints and they grovel with the sinners. This ought not be so! Think of Daniel, at the age of 17, he took a stand that was the equivalent to social suicide. He chose to be different. As a result, God was able to bless his life and get great glory from Daniel.

E. Recognize your anointing in Christ: Its the anointing that will break you free from ruts, niches and molds. These are the traps the devil lays to contain your unique anointing (Isa. 10:27). The only person you have to please is the Lord! If you are living your life in a manner that brings pleasure to our Heavenly Father, you will become great in the Kingdom of God. Remind yourself of this truth often and stay loyal to who God has designed you to be. God has His eye upon the loyal heart and His goal is to show up strong on their behalf.

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” (2 Chron. 16:9)
