Finding Your Focus

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” (Phil. 4:6)

The beauty of a conversation with God is that we can have one anytime, all the time, or anywhere about anything, because He is always listening and desiring to answer. There is great value when our inquiry is concentrated and intentionally focused. Approaching God with focus means learning to remain in God’s Word, believe in His promises, receive with openness and persevere to the end. Breakthrough is all about hearing and following His Voice!

Focused Prayer: (Jms. 5:16-18)

1. Remain – Stay in the Word: Our prayers anchored in God’s Word will clarify His Voice!

  • “But if you remain in Me and My words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (Jn. 15:7)
  • “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly.” (Col. 3:16)
  • “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.” (Jn. 15:4)
  • “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” (Jms. 1:25)

2. Believe – Faith is Key: Faith is believing! This is a prerequisite for answered prayer.

  • “You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” (Mt. 21:22)
  • “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6)

3. Receive – Expect to Receive: When you pray in Jesus’ Name and in agreement with His promises, expect to receive! It’s like the old expression: When you pray for rain, carry an umbrella!

  • “Until now you have not asked for anything in My Name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” (Jn. 16:24)
  • “If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, My Father in Heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as My followers, I am there among them.” (Mt. 18:19-20)

4. Persevere – Keep Asking with Intentional Perseverance: Intentional perseverance is the approach necessary for receiving answers. Don’t give up!

  • “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Mt. 7:7-8)
  • “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” (Eph. 6:18)
