For His Purpose

Releasing the purposes of God in East Africa

“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 Jn. 3:8)

Woven into the context of Christ’s purpose for being manifest in the flesh, is an incredible revelation… sinning is in agreement with the devil’s plan for your life! In contrast, the alternative that Christ offers… is freedom from sin and freedom from the deceptive works that the devil continues to release in the earth. Jesus instructed His disciples to pray for the release of heaven’s authority and power… “on earth as it is in heaven” (Mt. 6:10). As we pray then, we are actually praying for heaven to touch earth… to break the power of sin and free us from the residue of its effect on our lives.

Think about it – when Jesus came He brought His world into focus, so that it could be understood and stand in direct contrast to the devil’s schemes. Jesus was offering us freedom and empowerment to influence the world in which we live. He demonstrated the Kingdom of God on earth every time He touched a leper or healed a cripple! His example expressed God’s goodness, love and power; through signs and wonders, miracles and supernatural manifestations. This experience of Kingdom life (Acts 10:38) was meant to be training and basic discipleship for believers to do the same on earth today (Jn. 14:12). This was the purpose and we must embrace it!

A Kingdom Mandate:

His purpose is our destiny… and we must be clear in our understanding of His heart. I believe it is safe to say that there is no sickness in heaven, and therefore; it no longer has free reign to rule over the “People of Promise”! Also, there is no poverty, depression, disease or hopelessness in heaven. What this means is that we have a real Kingdom mandate to proclaim. A new day, free from the oppression of the enemy has arrived… if we (as citizens of heaven) can see it and pursue it in faith. God’s message of Christ’s victory must be released in the nations and a new discipleship must take place. Jesus commissioned His followers with these words: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely you have received, freely give” (Mt. 10:8)(Mt. 28:18-20).

His Purpose is Our Model:

I remember when I became a new Christian – I was told what “not to do”. I was taught that I needed help… as a “sinner” I needed to be “perfected”, before I could be of use to God. In hindsight, there was too much emphasis on me, my ability, and my religious performance. According to the Apostle John, Jesus had a purpose that He accomplished in my life and it was sufficient. His purpose was to “…destroy the works of the devil”. The word purpose in Greek is the word “tupos” and it means “model or imitation”. The truth is clear, that when Jesus was destroying the works of the devil; He was demonstrating a reality of the Kingdom for us to imitate every day. When we are given an assignment by the Holy Spirit, it is with purpose and we are being called to imitate Christ… “to destroy the works of the devil”. In fact, this is one of the ways in which we are able to give Him glory – by imitating Him!

Identifying with Kingdom Purpose:

Satan is evil – we must stop imitating him. However, he is always targeting us with lies that kill God’s purpose (Jn. 10:9-10), as he did Eve in the Garden. He is attempting to cause us to doubt our identity in Christ. If we believe opposite of who we are, (i.e.; sons and daughters of the King and made in His divine image), we become powerless to fully imitate God. Why is that? It is because when we doubt our identity in God, we also doubt our ability to be demonstrators of His power. The two go hand-in-hand. In fact, knowing who you are in Christ empowers you with heaven’s authority to demonstrate His purposes around you!

Let me repeat that word… “knowing who you are in Christ empowers you with heaven’s authority to demonstrate His purposes around you!”
