Immanuel, Glory Revealed

Hearing how Jesus responded to human need is perhaps the most revealing picture throughout the New Testament.

  • To the leper, in need of cleansing… Jesus said “I am willing” (Mk 1:41).
  • To the woman with the flow of blood, reaching for the hem of His garment… Jesus said “Daughter your faith has made you well, go in peace and be healed of your affliction” (Mk 5:34).
  • To the deaf man… Jesus looked into heaven and said “Be opened” (Mk 7:34).

In all of these cases and more, we see the Glory of God manifest and revealed in Jesus Christ. He said of Himself, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Lk 4:18-19). The Anointed One was Jesus – the Christ, come to reveal the Glory of God… “Immanuel” (Mt 1:23).

Moving Toward Human Need:

God was in Christ, making His Glory known, moving toward human need and revealing the character of “The Father”. The best way to truly know what God is like is to hear and see how Jesus revealed Him. Jesus was called Immanuel which means “God with us”, walking among us and reaching out to us.

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.” (Isa 7:14)

His name is Immanuel… even when the doctor says, “Cancer.”
His name is Immanuel… even in the darkest night.
His name is Immanuel… even when she says, “I don’t love you anymore.”
His name is Immanuel… even when your heart is breaking.
His name is Immanuel… even as you walk away from the grave.
His name is Immanuel… even in the midst of grief.
His name is Immanuel… even when you feel alone.
His name is Immanuel… even when the job goes away.
His name is Immanuel… even when your son won’t come home.

His Name will always be Immanuel!

“The Lord your God is with you,
He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
(Zeph 3:17)

Consider the following thoughts expressed in these verses:

  1. “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” (Jn 1:18)
  2. “And He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.” (Jn 12:45)
  3. “God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself” (2 Cor 5:19)
  4. “I and My Father are one.” (Jn 10:30)
  5. “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”  (Jn 14:9)
  6. Jesus said to Martha at the death of her brother Lazarus, “Did I not say to you that if you believe you would see the Glory of God?” (Jn 11:40)
  7. It is God who ”…has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the Glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Cor 4:6)

Immanuel – Truly is the Glory of God Revealed to Us!
