Introducing Father

“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name.” (Mt. 6:9)

“And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father!” (Gal. 4:6)

God Our Father: “Abba” – Papa or Daddy

Do you realize that God was never known as “Father” until Jesus came to earth and revealed Him as such? In prayer Jesus said, “And I have declared to them Your Name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them” (Jn. 17:26). What name was Jesus referring to? It was the name “Father” (Jn. 14:6). There was nothing more natural to Jesus than introducing us to God as “Father”.

  • “Therefore, do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear?… For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” (Mt. 6:31–32)
  • “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Mt. 7:11)

What seems natural to Jesus is supernatural to us. The revelation of “sonship” that the Apostle Paul speaks about, goes beyond just mental assent, it is a Spirit of Sonship. And it wells up within us to confirm the depth of love the Father has for us. Jesus wants us to always have this image of God stirring in our mind… that He is our Abba, our faithful Father. Why? Because it will shape every motivation of the heart.

You are Loved by the Father!

There is something about this knowledge that is more than just practical. No matter how old you are; you are still God’s child, so don’t think that your problem is too small for God. If it is important to you, it is important to your Father as well.

My friend, always remember that He is Abba… your Father!
