Fruitful Lips

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” (Heb. 13:15)

I am invested in the idea of maintaining fruitful lips. Like David I want to be found praising the Lord seven times a day… and seven days a week! Why? – Because Praise accomplishes things that nothing else can. It effects hearts, renews vision and awakens passions that have grown cold. Praise gets the attention of the enemy of our soul and pushes back against the kingdom of darkness. My finest hour is not when all is well… but when all is sheltered beneath the shadow of God’s Presence.

Rejoicing Releases Peace:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:4-7)

When we praise Him He shows up right in the middle of our circumstance! God wants to bring us the victory! He is not insecure… He doesn’t need our praise to prop up a sagging self image. Praise does far more for us than it does for Him. The Apostle Paul tells us that rejoicing praise and thanksgiving will get us beyond our limited imagination, small thinking and mere understanding… it will guard our hearts and minds with the power that Jesus Christ offers.  Don’t be anxious and worry about things, unlock your ability to trust God in the midst of storms and uncertain circumstances… and the peace of God will be released! Jesus is the Prince of Peace… let Him show up as you rejoice in who He is!

Never Allow Yourself to be the Victim:

When the Apostle Paul and his good friend Silas were arrested for preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. They were chained, beaten and cast into prison. They were locked down and positioned for defeat. They had every reason to be angry, depressed and discouraged; but instead they praised God. And at midnight; what looked dark to most people, looked like daybreak to Paul and Silas. They would be found rejoicing and singing hymns of praise to God. The other prisoners were listening, when suddenly a violent earthquake shook the foundations of the jail. All the doors immediately flew open and all the prisoners’ chains broke loose. (Acts 16:25-26)

  • In the midnight hour when things are dark, Praise Him!
  • When you feel mistreated or misunderstood, Praise Him!
  • When you are facing physical or emotional pain, Praise Him!
  • Don’t wait for things to get better. Praise Him and things will get better!

“This people I have formed for Myself; they shall declare My Praise.” (Isa. 43:21)

Beyond the Limits

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)

If you want to experience a fresh reality of life, influenced by the power of God; you need to discover how to live beyond your limitations. There is a Living Resource in Jesus. He is the Christ – the Son of the Living God, mighty to deliver and faithful to strengthen the weary. I can almost hear: “Yeah, that’s easy for you to say. If you were in my situation you would see that it’s not that easy to change things.”

Changing things will not change things!

For most people there is a natural resistance against the unknown, even if it is wanted desperately. People do not like to be where they are… but they are afraid to risk what they have relied upon.

I want to let you know of the 3 things that will limit God’s power in your life and offer you the alternative that will not require you to change anything… God will do it for you! These might feel like baby steps, but they will benefit you and your awareness of God’s activity in your life. Sometimes our biggest hurdle is that we lean on ourselves when we think we are trusting God! So, let these sink in…

1. Fear limits God – So Let God Love You!

When we are afraid we start becoming anxious and reason things out. Fear of men, fear of rejection, fear of success, fear of failure, fear of losing friends, approval or your job, all kinds of fears come to the surface when life gets overwhelming. Let me remind you that love casts out ALL fear! The people who do not know the love of God, fall apart like a house of cards in a wind storm. They cannot handle the weight of adversity, because they cannot trust His care for them. To know God is to allow Him to love you, just as you are… warts and all. You can always tell the size of a man’s character by the size of the problem it takes to discourage him.

2. Unbelief limits God – So Let God Prove Himself!

Unfortunately we live in a culture of unbelief. The news, our friends and family, and even most churches; often speak and act out of unbelief. You may not doubt that God can do amazing things, but you might wonder why He would do anything for you… its about His willingness to do it. Recognize God is willing, because He likes you.

I can have the faith that God can heal, but at the same time not believe that He will do it right here, for me. That is how the leper felt when he asked Jesus if He was willing to heal him (Mk. 1:40-41). Jesus was willing!

I can know that God supplies all my needs, but still not walk in an assurance that He will do it when I’m in a tight spot. That is how the Apostle Paul felt when he was in need (2 Cor. 7:5-7) for when he arrived in Macedonia (Acts 20:1) he had a difficult time “with trouble all round – conflicts outside and anxiety within”. But God, who cheers the depressed, gave him comfort by the arrival of Titus. That encouragement and strength was what the Apostle Paul needed… supernatural grace to reign in life!

3. Disobedience limits God – So Let God Speak to You!

If God tells you to do something – do it, even if it might not look like the smartest thing to do. Who cares about what other people say when you have a word from God? You might need some wisdom in how or when to step up, hut remind yourself that you’re not alone. God can even bless a mistake made out of faith more than a mistake made by doing nothing! If you step across the line and stop over thinking what God should you, you will see His power begin moving in your life.

So get rid of fear and unbelief and be obedient to what He says and you will see greater miracles in your life. You will find yourself trusting in the One who makes the impossible possible… in the One who is always for you!

“And if God be for you who can be against you?” (Rom. 8:31)

Feeling Desperate

God will meet you there

Feeling desperate and alone

Desperation is one of the most confusing and dangerous feelings a person can have. It’s dangerous because anxious, despairing people often do things without thinking about the long-term consequences. This sense of panic can cause you to make bad decisions. It can trick you into thinking that if you don’t act in the immediate, you’ll never have another chance.

We don’t want to focus our attention on Satan, but desperation must be one of his most effective tools. This feeling of hopelessness can detour people off God’s path and intimidate them into taking paths of fear and destruction. By the time the truth is realized, we’ve lost months, maybe years of our lives that we can never get back. So how do you defend yourself against this problem of desperation? What can you do as a Christian, to conquer the feelings and the desperate state of mind?

The Great Exchange:

Let me begin by reminding you that God loves you and has a plan for your life that He invested in about 2000 years ago. When the Heavenly Father sent His Only Son to die on the cross, it was in order to demonstrate His love and passion for you and I to become His children. It may sound odd, but His ability to know the end from the beginning, enables Him to creatively connect His love to us and our fulfillment of His purposes. Every day of our lives are written in the prophetic books of Heaven and His hope is that we will step into that prophetic flow, move in sync with His heart and find a faith empowered life… abundant and free. When we lay aside all that hinders us from hearing God, He opens up a pathway that makes following His will a joyful experience. Jesus said, “Come unto Me all who are weary and heavy laden… learn from Me, by becoming yoked with Me and I will give you rest for your souls” (Mt 11:28-29). In essence we can lay aside our desperation and exchange it for the peace that passes our understanding. Yea God!

Its that Simple?

Realize that desperation is a spirit and must be resisted. What the Bible tells us is that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us and as we then resist the Devil, from this secure position he will flee from us (Jms 4:7-8). This really does work, in that you and God together are a mighty force that totally intimidates the Devil. Recently I spoke to our fellowship about the Devil’s fall from Heaven at a speed of 182,000 miles/second. Imagine that fall! How do I know this, well Jesus said He personally witnessed the fall of the Devil and described it as… “like lightening”. Then in the next verse we read that Jesus has given us authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy (Lk 10:18-19). He has delegated authority to us for a life of fruitful abundance and has no plan of our delay, defeat or distractions. We must find the strength that comes from His Spirit and walk in victory over all fear based hindrances.

More than Conquerors!

The greatest hope of all is the knowledge that we are more than conquerors in Christ. Because His lives we also are alive in Him. Because He has conquered sin for us we overcome sin in this life. Because He has defeated death in His mortal body, we are fully equipped to face death every day and arise in the strength of His resurrection power. Yes, we are more than conquerors, because He has conquered the things that come against us, to cause feelings of desperation. Therefore, we rejoice in tribulation and bless those who curse us, we love and do not hate, forgive and believe the best. And we recognize more than anything that we cannot fail, for we have not come to represent ourselves. We are His Ambassadors, citizens of Heaven and friends of the King of Kings. He is and always will be Lord of All, which means there is no place remaining for feelings of desperation.
