Principles of Governing

Then God blessed the man and woman, and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Gen. 1:28)

“When Jesus had called the twelve together, He gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases.” (Lk. 9:1)

Dominion is our natural stewardship of the planet! Its using the power and authority given freely by Christ to govern our sphere of influence. It is not enough to simply have the power to control things, if you do not have the right or authorization. For example, a person may have power to take someone’s car, but if he does not have the authority to do it, they are called a thief. On the other hand, a person may have the right or authority to take my car; but if he does not have the battery, he lacks the power to do it.

Jesus gave the Church both power and authority to govern as Kingdom representatives in this world, then He set the pattern for how to do it.

He said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” (John 14:12). The believer can do the miracles Jesus did and even greater than those seen through Him. Since Jesus gave us His power and authority, we simply have to look at what areas He showed dominion over.

Jesus showed dominion over:

  • Natural Problems (Mark 4:39)
  • Sickness and Diseases (Mark 2:10-12)
  • Evil Spirits (Mark 1:23-27)
  • Death (Luke 7:12-15)
  • Poverty (Matt 14:16-20)
  • Temptation (Heb 4:15)
  • Sin (Mark 2:10)

Jesus is our Example:

When you get a revelation of Jesus’ dominion you begin to recognize your own dominion. You will begin to speak to storm clouds, natural or spiritual. You will not put up with sickness and disease. You will drive out evil spirits. You will expect to live a long life. You will not worry over lack. You will resist temptation. You will not let the enemy condemn you for your past sins. This is dominion. When you find yourself overcome by these things in your life, then its time to exercise your dominion. The Apostle John said, “as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world.” (1 Jn. 4:17)

Exercising Dominion is Governing:

Someone may ask, “So how do I exercise my dominion?” It is easy! You exercise dominion by governing your behavior… living to the Glory of God and choosing your words with the Holy Spirit’s influence. Renew your mind in the Words of Jesus… God’s Word! That’s right… you reign by releasing the Will of God over every situation! Look at how Jesus ruled… He said I do nothing on My own initiative… I only do what I see My Father do and speak what I hear My Father saying! (Jn. 5:19 & 8:28) And that is how He exercised dominion… through a life lived in the Glory of His Father!

He spoke to the winds and waves, “Peace! Be still!” And the storm obeyed Him. He said to the sick, “Be healed.” And His Word cured them. He used only His word to drive out demons and this shocked the people of His day (Mk. 1:27). When it came to death, He simply spoke, “I say unto you, get up.” And the dead listened. When the people were in need of food, He simply spoke a blessing and His blessing multiplied the loaves and fishes. How did He overcome temptation? Simply by saying to the devil, “It is written.” And when He saw a sinner condemned and sick He said, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” His words calmed the fears of the sinner, because they carried the dominion of His Father’s will. His words were sufficient in every situation. His words caused Satan to flee, because God stood behind them. Jesus consistently accessed the Glory of the heavenly realm and released God’s provision of health, deliverance and restoration.

Jesus consistently accessed the Glory Realm and released God’s provision of health, deliverance and restoration.

Disciples Govern the Same Way:

Obedience is evidence of our discipleship! Governing through our words and action requires us to carry a knowledge of the Truth and a love of His Presence. Jesus said that without Me you can do nothing, but if you abide in Me and My Words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you (Jn. 15:5 & 7-8). Note that He goes on to say, by this His Father is glorified that you and I would bear fruit and prove our discipleship. Proving our discipleship is all about carrying out the will of God… dominion.

Jesus said, “if you abide in My words, you are My disciples indeed” (Jn. 8:31).

Say Yes!

“For all the Promises of God are Yes in Him. And in Him Amen, unto the glory of God - through us.” (2 Cor. 1:20)

Authority & Power:

Did you know that regardless of what others say and do, you have the spiritual authority to rise above their actions and words! (Job 22:28) In fact, not even the devil himself can resist or thwart the plans of a Child of God when he or she uses the authority that God has placed in their hands! (Lk. 10:19)(Mt. 16:19)

Releasing Faith:

Your faith can change your world! No matter how difficult things might seem at this moment or how small your faith may feel. Even a little faith can do great things when its released. But you must get it engaged toward your situation if you expect to breakthrough into the place God is calling you. When your voice agrees with God’s purposes it is going to change that which is affecting you negatively.

God has given you dominion over your life. Dominion is the power and the authority to govern and control that which concerns you. He has put you in a position to grow in faith and every time you speak, you are setting the limits upon the enemy’s approach. God has commissioned you to set the spiritual boundaries and utterly defeat those things that are not in sync with God’s will for your life (2 Cor 10:3-6). Its a battle over your affections, but when God has captured your heart, the devil can’t move you.

Say ‘Yes’ to His Promises:

You’re a Believer! Your confession of faith is your “yes”. Set the decree ever before you and praise Him with the shout! Remember: “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Mt. 18:18). You have been given authority on earth to decree God’s will and He will back it up in heaven! God gave dominion for a holy purpose and you have the privilege to be used by God to speak His will and declare His desires on Earth (Mt. 6:10).

“Will of God – Be Done… On Earth as it is in Heaven!”

Restoration

“I will restore or replace for you” says the Lord, “the years that the locust has eaten… the hopping locust, the stripping locust, and the crawling locust, My great army which I sent among you. And you shall eat in plenty and be satisfied and praise the name of the Lord, your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you. And My people shall never be put to shame. And you shall know, understand, and realize that I am in the midst of Israel and that I the Lord am your God and there is none else. My people shall never be put to shame.” (Joel 2:25-27)

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Although the past is irreversible and overwhelming at times… God is the restorer of broken dreams and shattered lives! He has declared a New Day available for all of humanity! God has laid a foundation of hope in Christ – He is saying we can be a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17)… and our old ways can be in the past! There is a new beginning waiting for us, filled with new chances, new opportunities and new expectations (Isa. 43:18-21). God will wipe away our rotten past and restore that which was lost, stolen or destroyed by sin, brokenness or the devil.

Restoration begins by Believing!

As the Savior of mankind, the Lord Jesus Christ has done all to rescue us from the things that diminish or destroy us. If we can but believe – hope opens the door! There is a restoration coming into our spirits, minds, bodies, relationships, and other aspects of our humanity. Believers can be delivered from oppression (Acts 10:38) and rest in the safety that effects spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being (Mt. 11:28-30).

Come, you weary, broken and lost and find a place of safety in His loving care for you.

Hope is a Destination!

Run into the arms of your Father in the Spirit! There you will have plenty and be complete, satisfied and whole. He wants you to know the truth and the freedom of walking in His Presence! It is His joy to reveal His heart toward you! He is a Father… like no other. He will not allow His people to be orphans or feel ashamed anymore. This is a profound truth that no one else can claim.

Let Him speak into your heart today… “I the Lord am your God and there is no one else!”

No Name Like Jesus

What have we labeled “IMPOSSIBLE”?

There is a name like no other… its above every name that can be named among men (Phil 2:9-11). Its the name of “Jesus” that allows access into heavenly resources, breaks through in difficult circumstances and pulls the believer into new seasons of influence. The name, “Jesus” on the lips of the believing heart is the most amazing force in the universe… for in that name is power and authority.

Access – Breakthrough – Purpose:

Jesus said, “All authority has been given unto Me in heaven and in earth“ (Mt 28:18). “In My name they shall cast out devils” (Mk 16:17). He literally gave us His own authority when He gave us His name. An authority to deal with the Devil. Every act of stealing, killing and deception is now abruptly held to a new standard of authority. The authority of the most recognized name in Heaven, the most powerful name on Earth and the most significant name in history… has been delegated to our use.

Authority is delegated power.

A person’s authority is only as great as the power that stands behind them! The police officer directing traffic in the middle of the street is wearing a badge that represents the power of the governing laws that he enforces. A large truck could easily crush him in the middle of the busy street, but because the driver understands the power of the badge, he quickly yields his will and submits the power of his large vehicle to the authority of the badge.

The Name of Jesus is like a “Badge of Authority”!

God knew that you needed a weapon of defense against all that the wiles of the Devil (Eph 6:16). What we must come to understand is how to use the name to our benefit. His name represents His person, His position, His seating, and His influence over all things. His promise to the believer is clear, ”If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” (Jn 14:14). Jesus’ name can accomplish things that might feel impossible in the natural; yet when we live in intimacy with Him, we experience a growing awareness of how the natural is dominated by the Spirit.

Faith-filled and Lead by the Spirit:

The early Church recognized the incredible power they carried in the name of Jesus. Look at how Peter and John address the crippled beggar at the Gate Beautiful of the temple, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6). The beggar immediately received strength in his feet and ankle bones and as Peter grabbed his hand, he leaped to his feet with joy and praise to God. Later Peter needed to explain the miracle to some critics saying, “It was His name, through faith in His name, that made this man strong whom you see and know.” Amazingly the critics were familiar with this beggar and all of Isreal knew him, because they had passed him daily going into the temple. Yet this was a new day and demonstrated a new authority, where faith in the name of Jesus was confronting what they had seen as normal.

Confronting Normal:

God was and still is, breaking in at the very gate of all that humanity has labeled impossible; simply because we have adjusted our seeing. He has handed the world an opportunity to experience the “New Normal”, where the name of Jesus offers access to all the authority of Heaven. This new normal confronts all that we see as familiar, impossible and overwhelming. But it offers hope, beyond the limitations. The new normal is living by faith in the name of Jesus.

Value Your Anointing!

“Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us – Eternal Life. These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.” (1 Jn. 2:24-27)

Allowing the knowledge of God to abide in you, is more than just theology or Church Doctrine being understood. Our minds are incredible in so many ways. God has given us the capacity to process facts, but spiritual truth requires spiritual discernment… an anointing of the Holy Spirit. The anointing is an abiding Presence of the Holy Spirit that offers influence (Exousia or authority) and power (dunamis or dynamic impact). Those benefits go beyond the natural realities of our five senses. We have by way of the anointing, a supernatural ability to see, hear and move in the spiritual realm. The Apostle John is trying to help us understand the value of this anointing, as we process Eternal Life.

1st) We need to Experience Eternal Life…

The Anointing within us is designed to turn spiritual knowledge into fellowship with the Father and the Son. This is fellowship in the Glory of God at its best! When we are saved, we are transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light; whereby our lives are no longer held by the power of sin, but the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is a process, recognizing the influence of our new abiding “Helper” (Holy Spirit); but it is also, an awesome and powerful freedom that allows Eternal Life to be released into all of our decisions. Its by the anointing that we know spiritual truth and have power to overcome the enemies of our soul (Isa. 10:27)(1 Jn. 2:20 & 27). If you desire to see deliverance and breakthrough in your life, then you must value the anointing! Even Jesus was aware of the impact the anointing carried upon His life and ministry. He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me…” (Lk. 4:18).

2nd) We must Hold On to Eternal Life…

The Apostle John warns us that many are trying to deceive and lie about the truth of God. They are jealous or intimidated by the life they see in the Believer and aim to discredit the Child of God, because they walk in rebellion to a Biblical world view. There are so many hostile environments in our world, that it requires us to value the anointing above any other influence in life. We must have a fresh anointing abiding within us to build ourselves up and carry a bold testimony of God’s goodness and power in our lives. Without question, trouble is always knocking at our door and we cannot give in or make room for the enemy’s lies or perversions. We give no place to the Devil… by standing firm against his schemes (Eph. 6:11-13), his approaches (Jms. 4:7) and his accusations (Rev. 12:10-11). It is the anointing that destroys the demonic strongholds and offers freedom in the midst of spiritual battles (2 Cor 10:3-6)(Acts 10:38). We must value the anointing if we want to continue to receive the blessings of Eternal Life… in ourselves and for those within our reach.

3rd) We are called to Advance Eternal Life…

Believer’s are called to become Ambassadors for the Message of Eternal Life. We are like the mouthpiece of God, flesh and bone, but anointed with the Word of Hope. Our declaration is that God has set His love upon the world and lifted up His own Son in the place of the sinful. We cry out with trembling voices, “Be reconciled to God!” Because He made Him, who knew no sin; to become sin for us, so that we might become His righteousness, by the pure blood shed at the cross (2 Cor 5:19-21). We must value the anointing of the Holy Spirit, because it is not about the eloquence of our preaching or the depth of our experience. It’s all about the One who abides in us, speaks through us and empowers the message… so that it is “good news”. As Kingdom Agents we advance Eternal Life with the anointing, through the anointing and by the anointing. Jesus said, “All authority, and all power has been given unto Me, therefore go… preach, teach and disciple the nations of the Earth… and I will be with you!” (Mt. 28:18-20 -my paraphrase).

That is the anointing defined… “I will be with you – I will be upon you – I will abide in you and live through you!” Why would you have no need of a teacher? “For He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world.” (1 Jn. 4:4)
