Pulling On God’s Heart

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among My people… If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.” (2 Chron 7:13-15).

Ministry Breakthrough:

Our Lord Jesus said fasting would be necessary for His disciples when He was no longer with them in person. “The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast” (Mt 9:15). Notice Jesus is giving the impression that the disciples would need to fast in order to pull information out of the spiritual realm after He was gone.

The early disciples remembered the words of Jesus and made fasting a vital part of their spiritual lives, especially when breakthrough was needed. The outstanding work God accomplished through them speaks for itself. They could easily hear God speak to them through prayer and fasting and so their activities in ministry were more effective.

Just imagine the scene as those disciples were worshiping and fasting. The Holy Spirit spoke with amazing clarity. “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them“. So after they fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them into ministry (Acts 13:2-3).

Personal Breakthrough:

We must recognize the value of fasting and prayer, as we consider our own heart toward God. Many times in my life, I have seen wilderness experiences turned into opportunities for promotion, simply because of fasting. Turning sorrows into joy and mourning into dancing, must not be left to chance or opportune times. We must move into our responsibility as stewards of our spiritual destinies, because we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Prayer and fasting will separate us from spiritual laziness, where we stop expecting God to bring success and lay it at our feet. Jesus told His disciples that when they prayed and fasted, God would reward them publicly… openly (Mt 6:18). I have watched God move with Kingdom resources when I gave myself to fasting.

“Even now, declares the Lord, return to Me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love and He relents from sending calamity” (Joel 2:12-13).

Bring My Children Into Glory

“I will say to the north, Give them up! And to the south, Do not keep them back! Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth— Everyone who is called by My Name, whom I have created for My Glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”  (Isaiah 43:6-7)

We as God’s Children were made for His Glory! We were designed to enjoy His fellowship and advance in the knowledge of His heart for us. In the Scripture above, we can feel the passion of the Father calling His Children home. Its more than an invitation… its more like a declaration of war! As if God Himself is speaking to the spiritual forces of darkness and all human governing bodies saying, “The day of confinement is over! I am establishing an order of release and recovery!” Truly it amazes me to watch as God puts His foot down upon the neck of principalities and powers in the spiritual realm.

The Voice Itself:

Make no mistake; this voice is the prophetic voice of Isaiah, yet it is the passionate heart of the Father as well. Our perception of a prophetic voice is so important as we hear with the ears of faith. You see, it cannot become only a prophetic “suggestion” in our daily routine, because God is serious about recovering a people who know Him and are waiting for a pathway to be established in the wilderness. Remind yourself of how God found you in your sinful condition and called you to Himself. He did this because of His love for you… to bring you back into His Glory!

Our Assignment:

John the Baptist was not the only Messenger of the Lord who has been assigned the task of making a highway visible for the people of God to find His Glory (Isa. 40:1-5). Jesus said, “Go – into all the earth and make disciples” (Mt. 28:19). The Apostle Paul said, “Therefore we are Ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20). It is our assignment to bear witness and make available a pathway back to the Father’s heart! This thought of ”bringing them back” means we have a mandate from heaven to grab the hands of every person within reach and speak of God’s love for them. We have a task that requires our diligent understanding and our personal commitment!

4 Practical Principles:

  1. Be People of the Glory… You cannot bring people to where you have never been. Recognize your own chosenness and royalty in God’s Kingdom. You are a holy and special person, designed, formed and called out of darkness and into His marvelous light (1 Pe. 2:9-10). Being a person who understands the Glory of God cannot happen without your participation daily in prayer and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. You must be a Child of God and have obtained mercy… in order to offer mercy and a path into His Glory.
  2. Be Equipped… God’s desire is that all of His Children be filled with all the fullness of His Spirit (Eph. 5:15-21). Jesus said all we need to do is ask for the Holy Spirit, because it is the Father’s desire to give us the Kingdom (Lk. 12:31-32). Making a priority for the things of God will begin to establish your pathway into the Father’s heart. That is where the resources are found. You will need grace, intimacy and yieldedness in order for your life to display fruitfulness.
  3. Be Observant… You carry the Father’s Glory in that you carry the testimony of Christ. Christ is the Desire of the Nations (Hag. 2:7) and because He lives in you, you will become the desire of those around you in need of Him. “Arise and shine, your Light has come and the Glory of the Lord has risen upon you” – these words of Isaiah 60:1-3 speak of the Gentiles coming to your light and kings coming to the brightness of your “rising” or testimony. Its spoken of Christ and it is speaking to you, because “Christ in you is the hope of Glory” (Col. 1:27).
  4. Be Prophetic… Speak to people what God is saying about them. Bless those that curse you and love those that speak evil of you because of your testimony in Christ. Recognize the real battle is in the spirit realm (Eph. 6:10-12), with forces that aim to confuse (2 Cor. 10:3-6) and works that aim to deceive (1 Jn. 3:8). You are God’s anointed voice to the principalities and powers in the spiritual realm, wherever God has given you influence. Speak boldly and speak often of the reality that God has made a way through Christ, back into the Father’s Glory (Eph. 3:10-11).

Notice: The Goal is the Glory!

Finally, I want to emphasize the spoken desire of God is to bring His Children back into the Glory. Adam was created for the Glory and lived in a Garden that was designed to allow him to be “formed” by his fellowship in Glory. He was visited daily by God who walked with him in the cool of the day in an atmosphere permeated by the Glory. And God’s greatest gift to mankind was to give His Only Begotten Son - Christ, in whom is the brightness of His Glory and the express image of His person (Heb 1:3). In Christ, God has opened up the pathway home and in you and I, He is making His purposes known in all the earth.

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

Maintain the Promise

Scripture: “…And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls. (Joel 2:28-32)

Thought for Today: “Becoming A Power Team”

The Church that we see spoken of consistently in Scripture is a people of power. Jesus said the very gates of hell shall not prevail against Her (Mt 16:18). She is a people of Promise (Lk 24:49), called out of darkness and established upon a platform of supernatural love (Col 1:13-14) and Holy Spirit activity (Acts 2:4). She has stood in the midst of persecution and multiplied in the midst of division. Her character has been challenged from every angle and She has advanced in every culture. Yet, She fights Her greatest battles from within, from the very people who carry Her Promise. She will prevail, but not without a people who know how to maintain that Promise.

The Promise of the Father:

We, as God’s People; cannot emphasize this enough – The Promise of the Father is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit! Jesus told His disciples to go wait in Jerusalem until they were endued, or clothed with power from on high (Lk 24:49)(Acts 1:4-8). This is the Promise that was experienced on the day of Pentecost and continues even today, and it is the force that has made the Church most effective in the modern world. Power was released that made those early followers “witnesses” in their world and that same power is alive today if we will maintain the Promise of the Father.

Maintaining the Promise of the Father: (2 Chron 7:14)
If My people who are called by My name will… 1st) humble themselves and pray… 2nd) seek My face… and 3rd) turn from their wicked ways.

God’s Response: Renewal, Revival and Restoration
Then I Will… 1) hear from heaven… 2) forgive their sins… and 3) heal their land.

Please notice that God’s Promise is conditional, meaning we must maintain its reality. God will only do what He can do, when we do what we have been called to do. The Church is responsible for the spiritual condition of our neighbors, city and nation, because God has given us delegated authority to advance His cause in our World. We are the Power Team in the Earth. We are the carriers of revival to different spheres of society. We maintain the Promise of the Father by fervent, persistent and faith-filled praying. When we as God’s People humble ourselves and seek His face, He will hear and respond. God will not fasten our destinies to a dead end vision or lifeless system maintained by religion. Remind yourself that it is still His Church… He is simply wanting to rule and reign in it again!

Another Great Awakening:

I believe there is gonna be another great awakening, but it starts right here with us… God’s People; humbling themselves before God, praying and fasting, turning from their wicked ways and seeking His face!

God says through the Prophet Joel; “…afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.” (Joel 2:28)

The question to ask is; “after what?” Please do not forget what precedes the promise. “Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to Me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning…”(Joel 2:12) “Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly…” (Joel 2:15). God was saying, assemble a people who will fast and pray to recover what has been lost. This was God’s call to His People for the recovery of their Promise.

Another Example:

John the Baptist was a burning and shining lamp. It was the quality of his life and the fire of his devotion that captured a Nation. His authority to be a voice was in his lifestyle. Through prayer and fasting he prepared the way of the Lord. The same applies to us, through prayer and fasting we will prepare the way of the Lord. For Him to do a great work through us, He first has to do a great work in us. We carry the Glory of God within us… we are His Image Bearers; called to awaken and respond to His purposes in the earth (Hab. 2:14).

Revival starts with us, because we are the commissioned ones… we must maintain the Promise!

Recovering Promise

“Therefore let all the House of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:36-37)

The Church that we see spoken of consistently in Scripture is a people of power. Jesus said the very gates of hell shall not prevail against Her (Mt 16:18). She is a people of power, because of God’s Promise to accompany Her as the habitation of God by the Spirit. Clearly, She is a people called out of darkness and established upon a new platform of supernatural love and Holy Spirit activity. And She has overcome!

She has stood in the midst of persecution and multiplied in the midst of division. Her character has been challenged from every angle and She has advanced in every culture. Yet, She fights Her greatest battles from within, from the very people who carry Her Promise. She will prevail, but not without a people who know how to maintain their Promise. And, I think there will always be a need to recover what gets lost in battle or watered down by those with weak convictions.

The Promise of the Father:

The Promise of the Father is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit! Jesus told His disciples to go wait in Jerusalem until they were endued, or clothed with power from on high (Lk 24:49)(Acts 1:4-8). A Power Team

Today is day 19 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Scripture: Joel 2:12-32
