Excellence Manifested

“There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God. And in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father—your father the king—made him chief of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation.” (Dan. 5:11-12)

The Evidence of Excellence:

An excellent spirit looks like something! With Daniel, we see there were earmarks to his character that caused many to find in him the excellence needed to be promoted in life and ministry. God is the ultimate Judge and Instigator of our promotion… but He places us in position and sets His favor upon us by how we live and move. This is what we commonly call grace… the favor of God toward us. Its as though God were shining His light upon us in order to direct attention in our direction. You might think you are hidden, but if you are walking in excellence God will promote you, because He will always have need of you. Those with an excellent spirit rise with Kingdom influence!

I have highlighted the areas where Daniel was bearing the evidence of an excellent spirit: “knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel” In the following chapter of the Book of Daniel it says, “Now Daniel so distinguished himself… by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” (Dan. 6:3) The qualities in Daniel’s character were powerful realities that showed an anointing of the Holy Spirit. These abilities were sharpened and developed in relationship with God, not man… and held influence beyond even their level of development. The reason is because they offered God an opening to move among a people group completely unfamiliar with the ways of the Kingdom of God. The keys that open spiritual influence are embedded in our character… just like they were for Daniel!

Daniel’s Life Was Firmly Planted in God!

  1. He stood as an expression of God’s Wisdom! …with Knowledge and Understanding
  2. He stood as an expression of Consistent Integrity! …speaking Truth, Honorably
  3. He stood as an expression of Real Solutions! …Solving Problems and Explaining Mysteries

The Good News:

We are better placed in this generation than Daniel. Why? Because we have the indwelling Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth (Jn. 16:13). God has given us His Holy Spirit to reveal to us what the world can not see (1 Cor 2:6-16). By this Spirit, you will have the opportunity to see the mind of God and release treasures through your life and ministry. The key to getting an excellent spirit is to realize it is given by God and received by those who are willing to be lead by the Holy Spirit. You and I can have the mind of Christ, know things that are only revealed by the Spirit of God and walk as people of excellence every single day of our life.

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One and you know all things.” (1 Jn. 2:20)

Revelation Knowledge

“For You will light my lamp, the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by My God I can leap over a wall.” (Ps. 18:28-29)

The Hebrew word for light, “owr” means to be or become light, to shine, to be illuminated. It carries the meaning of spiritual revelation. When God shines His glorious light into our spiritual journey, we experience the sensation of a real awakening. Something is being turned on and destroys the dominion of darkness that surrounds our understanding.

Revelation is an Unfolding of Reality:

This “aha” moment causes us to see things for what they really are. Being enlightened simply opens our eyes to what is already there, but hidden from our understanding. God often hides things for our discovery! He wants us to come into Truth with a commitment to obey and abide in it. When you and I become aware of spiritual things and possess a fresh understanding about life in relationship with God, we are walking in the spirit of revelation. You receive revelation knowledge by drawing near to Him, not simply by getting information about Him (Jms. 4:8-10).

Another place in Scripture we see this little word (owr) used is in Psalms 119:130. The Amplified Bible says, “The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light (owr); their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple”.

Revelation Transforms:

We must realize the impact of revelation knowledge. At its entrance and unfolding; discernment and comprehension come to even the most simple minded man. We can and need to walk in revelation knowledge everyday, because our enemy, Satan is like a prowling lion looking for the moments of blindness in our lives, so that he can pounce and drag us into deception (1 Pe. 5:8). With spiritual revelation comes wisdom from God and intuition about spiritual things. Our greatest thoughts, visions or strategies for life are yet to be revealed in us, yet they give us the advantage God offers His Children.

We must train our spirit to receive revelation knowledge or we will find ourselves walking after the patterns of this world. Its not wrong to have natural knowledge (the world’s wisdom), but it is a more limited form of discernment. When we walk in spiritual revelation our understanding is not limited by our five senses; sight, hearing, feelings, smelling or tasting. Living under the influence of what God is revealing is the definition of the renewed mind (Rom. 12:1-2).

Tapping into Deeper Revelation:

It is by the Holy Spirit that the deeper things of God become available to our perception. Therefore, we need to be taught how to open ourselves to the ministry of the Holy Spirit and how to recognize what He is imparting to us on the inside. Our spiritual growth and effectiveness in ministry depend upon the ability to hear a current word from God (Rom. 10:17). The more the Word of God renews our mind and the Holy Spirit positions our heart toward obedience, the more clarity we receive in the spirit realm. Its no different than if we turn the dial on a radio and hear the variety of music styles in the air… tuning in offers clarity.

What Revelation Knowledge will do for you.

  • 1)  Change your perception…
    a. of God – (1 Cor. 2:10) says “For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.”
    b. of yourself – (2 Cor. 3:18) says “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
    c. of your purpose – Moses before the revelation of God saw himself as a shepherd to Jethro; and nothing more, but when the Lord spoke to him, he understood that his purpose was to set the children of Israel free. (Exod. 2-3)
    d. of your destiny – After meeting with Christ on the way to Damascus Paul’s perception about his destiny was totally changed (Acts 26:15-18).
  • 2)  Activate Faith – In 2 Kings 4:9 that woman had to take action to make sure that they prepared a room for the man of God. The knowledge that she had was coming from inside so she could not rest until she had fulfilled what the Spirit had told her.
  • 3)  Deeper Discernment – The Apostle Paul would not know of his future until he got a revelation of what was about to happen. After that he knew they were going to survive and was able to deliver such a message (Acts 27:22-25).
  • 4)  Clarity of Focus – There was great focus in Paul’s ministry because he had a revelation of God.
  • 5)  Increased Passion – The Apostles Peter and John ministered with passion and had little distractions from the vision for ministry. Paul further says to live is Christ and to die is gain (Phil. 1:21). That kind of life can only be lived by people with a revelation of Christ.
  • 6)  Release A Pioneering Heart – With a word in your spirit from God nothing can stop you from doing what the Lord would have you accomplish (Lk. 1:37).

The Garment of Praise

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;  To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:1-3)

The answer against a “spirit of heaviness” is to put on the ”garment of praise.”

Satan hates praise:

Praise exalts Jesus no matter what the circumstances may look like. It engages our trust in God and activates our faith like nothing else can do. You see, praise introduces light and supernatural life into our circumstances. It is the ultimate release of spiritual freedom. Just listen to the following verses and let something click inside.

(2 Cor 3:17) “The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

(Gal 5:1) ” Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

(Jn 8:36) ” Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

Praise is Agreement with God!

Praising the Lord and agreement with the truth of God’s Word, renews the mind and lifts the spirit of heaviness off your shoulders. Notice the Prophet Isaiah says that your life is designed to reflect your calling as “trees of righteousness”. Its your destiny to become the “planting of the Lord”. As you praise Him daily, you will release the stature of Christ within you… “that He may be glorified”, seen and celebrated as your Deliverer! Nothing so clearly displays the power of God like our freedom in the spirit.

The Effect of a Spirit of Heaviness:

It darkens our countenance. Our hearts are down cast. This spirit brings a “heaviness” over us and dims our vision, robs our hope and crushes our sense of purpose. There are testimonies I’ve heard from people who say “when this spirit comes it even makes the room feel darker”. It brings a heavy and oppressive atmosphere that restricts and quenches our perception. It may come like a cloud hanging over you or your location, but the most difficult part to deal with is that it causes isolation. The devil’s goal is to remove you from the atmosphere of love and approval. Think about it, if Satan can get you isolated, then he can break your spirit and remove your source of inspiration and hope.

Recognize it:

This is the first step. You are a Child of God! This is not God’s will for you!  “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31) Don’t believe the lies… Praise God instead! Accept no criticism and carry no extra baggage. You must learn the art of selective hearing, so that you choose the things you ignore and the things that come from the Throne of Heaven. We destroy arguments and pull down strongholds, so that every thought is made captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5). That means I am actively discerning where my thoughts are coming from and believe me… I can rule over them with praise!

Put on the Garment of Praise!

This literally means to be “wrapped up in praise”. God has given it to be worn and provide insulation. So put it on like a jacket every single day. Take a few moments each morning and every time there is a battle raging, to put it on like armor on a soldier. You will watch your enemy run for cover with his tail between his legs… like a whipped puppy. That’s right, praise is your most effective tool in magnifying God and shrinking the influence of the devil. Get loud, get aggressive and set your heart on spiritual freedom!

It is the anointing that breaks the yoke! (Isa 10:27)

The Disciple Legacy

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled…” (John 14:27)

A Legacy is a gift to the next generation, and all who would follow their example! Its an invitation into one of the most substantial Kingdom realities available to the human heart. Being “in Christ” must never be measured by worldly standards. Jesus and His disciples were generous with their lives…

  1. Forsaking all to follow.
  2. Esteeming others as greater than themselves.
  3. Hearing the rhythm of the Father’s Heart.

Its living in the reality of the Father’s gift and the giving of abundant life, that shapes the character of all who receive. The world gives shadows… God offers us light! The world gives empty promises… Christ gives substance. The world gives that which is not bread, and cannot fill… God’s gifts are good, perfect, and satisfying. The world gives in vain, making wishes and lifeless evaluations. The world’s peace offers only a temporary comfort… while Christ gives the peace that goes beyond all understanding. Only Jesus says, “My peace I give unto you” as a legacy worth stepping into. That peace is a reality from another world… given and felt as a living principle in the soul. It offers roots and allows the rest of His promises to be fulfilled.

The Truth is the disciple legacy… worthy of the cost!

Lamp of Revelation Knowledge

“For You will light my lamp, the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by My God I can leap over a wall.” (Ps. 18:28-29)

God has made a promise to “light my lamp”… my spirit is alive with His revelation knowledge! The Hebrew word for light, “owr” means to be or become light, to shine, to be illuminated. It carries the meaning of spiritual revelation. When God shines His glorious light into our spiritual journey, we experience the sensation of a real awakening. Something is being turned on and its this “lamp of revelation knowledge” that destroys the dominion of darkness that surrounds our understanding.
