Rending Heaven

“Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your Presence. To make Your Name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your Presence.” (Isa. 64:1-2)

Like many of you, I have felt the despair of this season. We are in a very narrow place and even as the nations rage, there is a sense within my heart that all is not well. Everything that can be shaken is being shaken. If we are not careful, each of us might be tempted to believe that we are alone in this season. The Tempter would love for us to believe that God is not with us, that He doesn’t care about our challenges and that no one, not even our closest friends, are concerned about us. Yet, we must not allow the devil to cause us to surrender one step or one inch of our Kingdom posture. We must stand on His Word and tell the devil, “It is written!”

Releasing His Word:

When God says He will rend the heavens, He means that He will tear open a portion of heaven for His entry. He intends to come down by releasing His Word to us. The word “rend” is connected to the same word in Greek which means to “call out”. God is calling out! He has violently ripped a hole in the spiritual atmosphere and come into our world… His Word has become flesh and dwelt among us. As unsettling and unnatural as it was for a virgin to conceive and as foolish and unacceptable as it was for the world to embrace; God was rending the heavens and making Himself known to the nations. Why? Because His very Name is life, peace and salvation!

Let me repeat: His Name is Life, Peace and Salvation!

This “calling out” means several things. First, it implies that God will call out to us. He will make His name known to us, to call us to accountability. He knows us by name and He desires that we know Him… that we know His voice and His Presence. That we recognize love when it is demonstrated by a cross. It also implies a calling out to our enemy… His adversary! That’s right, can you picture this? Not only is God rending the heavens and calling out to us with words of life, He is also calling out to our enemy; the accuser, who accuses us day and night. What’s He saying… “It is Finished!” The day of vengence has now come…

  • I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Acts 2:19-21)

God is once more rending the heavens and coming down to us, by releasing His Word. Will we hear Him? He is speaking concerning our breakthroughs, as well as exposing the strongholds that are blocking His advancement in the Earth. He is speaking new strategies and equipping His people with power to transform the culture one person at a time. Shaking is not a new thing, its a God thing… God is revealing His purposes in the Earth and exposing the enemy at the same time. Our responsibility is to walk in God’s Promises and trust in His Fathering Heart.

Understand His Intentions:

Position yourself to hear the Voice of Your Redeemer! Remove the old garments for the Bride Groom stands ready. Cast aside the influence of Babylon (the world system) and Mammon. Shake yourself free from discouragement that latches onto your mind. Renewal and refreshment are awaiting the Bride as she sees with the eyes of faith and love. This Bride Groom comes with fire in His eyes, declaring His intentions. The Lord is extending peace like a river and the wealth of the nations like flowing streams (Isa 66:12). He comes anouncing His intent… “I have come for My Bride!”

The Good News:

There is a good word in these times of shaking. “Though sorrow may last for the night, joy comes in the morning” (Ps 30:5). God is not finished and He has no intention of holding back… for in rending the heavens He is making His Name known among the nations. The mountains will shake, but those who have their hearts set on their Beloved… they will welcome the sound of His footsteps.

“And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Acts 2:21)

Culture of Greatness

We have been commissioned to develop a culture that ignites the greatness in others. Many of us have had negative influences that seemed to suck the wind right out of our sails. Yet no matter how destructive these forces may have become, God has great plans and royal destinies for His people. It is our finest hour when we are able to create pathways for people to find their journey to the Palace.

Memories Vs. Dreams:

A friend of mine once said, “When your memories are greater than your dreams, then you are already beginning to die.”

Imagine if you were raised in a palace where everyone around you spoke to you about your destiny to become a king one day. Who would you be today? How do you think those expectations would effect your dreams? If you knew you were destined for greatness and could not fail, how would that shape your thoughts? …your living? …your personal risks?

Living the Life:

The Lord has told me that it is not too late to think like Solomon… to use God-given wisdom and believe in the greatness inside of me. Even if the role models of my life were negative and stole the joy of my childhood, I do not need to remain an orphan (Jn 14:18). I am a Child of God, which means I have a royal destiny (1 Pet 2:9-10). I follow Christ as my example and hear the Holy Spirit calling me into my true identity. As I begin to act like royalty, issues that felt like mountains in my life have become mere stepping stones to future promise. It feels good to overcome the obstacles that once hindered me.

A Culture of Greatness:

As the Royal Priesthood of God, we are called to develop a Kingdom Culture in our homes, churches, communities and nations that brings out the best in others. We do this by seeing and treating people as God created them to be. Our knowledge and love for others must come from our intimacy with God. We are no longer His slaves, but friends, walking by His side as kings and queens of His court. Being born into a Royal Family means we co-reign with Christ in the Kingdom of God. The culture we reflect is based upon the relational character we enjoy with our Heavenly Father. Jesus gave us the example of releasing a culture of greatness by doing what he saw the Father doing.

The Key is Honor:

Honor expresses value in others. It is one of the greatest attributes of nobility in the entire Bible. When the Kingdom of Heaven rules the heart, honorable behavior comes naturally. We give honor to people, not just because they deserve it, but because we are honorable citizens of the King. It is the standard or condition of the heart, not just the product of a good environment. It eliminates the need for control and manipulation, because it empowers with God-given purpose. People are great, because God created them in His image and for His glory. When we carry honor in our hearts, people can feel it and they respond to it, because it ignites the greatness inside of them.

Faith in the Earth

I believe God wants to bring a fresh revelation of peace to the World. There are however two major themes that run through Scripture… light will get brighter, while the darkness will get darker. God does some of His greatest works when all the Earth seemed to be asleep. It makes sense to me for the Holy Spirit to release such an outpouring of God’s Glory that all could see the goodness of the Lord in these days of confusion and desperation. But if He did this, would we recognize it?

It was Jesus who asked the question… “will I find faith in the Earth?” (Lk. 18:8)

A Fresh Vision of the Lamb of God: (Jn. 1:14)

No question, in order to release revival in any part of the world, there must be a fresh vision of Jesus… and a corresponding faith in the Earth. You might ask, “so what does that look like?” Here is a good example from John the Baptist. He understood that faith requires preparation. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17). It was John who prepared the path for the Lamb of God to come into view for the nation of Israel (Jn. 1:6-10). The prophet Isaiah tells us that John needed to… “make straight in the desert, a highway for our God” (Isa. 40:3-5). So we find the powerful impact John the Baptist makes by passionately baptizing thousands of repenting hungry Jews at the Jordan River. One man was releasing a radical shift in the way people would see and feel about their future. Faith was to follow their experience in the waters of baptism. His revelation was enormously valuable… you have to change the way you think. Living with faith means a death and rebirth of heart perceptions. What an amazing reality… to carry such influence within your heart and release such impact in the Earth.

Making straight in the desert, a highway for our God!”

The valleys would need to be exalted and the mountains made low. The crooked places needed to be made straight and the rough places made smooth. And why? “For the Glory of the Lord to be revealed” in such a way that everyone would see it! Today, this is our mandate – the Glory of the Lord!

“For the Earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14)

Kingdom People are designed to carry the Glory of God and create shifts in the atmosphere. Shifts that release faith in the Earth. Jesus tells us to pray for the Kingdom to come and the Father’s Will to be done, in the same way that the Kingdom is a reality of Heaven… “on earth as it is in Heaven” (Mt. 6:10). John was a voice crying in the wilderness saying… “prepare your hearts, repent of your ways; for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”. The Kingdom is at your finger tips and all you have to do is believe to receive it. Can you catch this revelation… believing engages the spiritual revolution we are after – God is after!

The Key is the Sign of His Glory:

John was not looking for just any man when he looked for Jesus. He was looking for the One in whom God had spoken previously in the secret place of John’s heart. The Lamb of God would be recognized by the fact that at His baptism the Spirit would come like a dove and land upon Him and stay. God was asking John to notice peace coming into the world by way of the Glory of God. The Lamb of God would serve as an entry point for the “dove” to land… and for God’s Glory – once lost – to be recognized again.

“…to give the light of the knowledge of the Glory of God in the face of Jesus.” (2 Cor. 4:6)

Leading as Royalty

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
