His Word to You

Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” (Lk 1:28)

Here we have the amazing story of how Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel who told her she would become the mother of the Messiah. Naturally Mary was shocked and asked how such a thing could be, since she was a virgin. The angel did not go into a longwinded explanation, but simply told her “the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you” (Lk 1:35). That was good enough for Mary and she responded with a powerful declaration of faith: “Let it be to me according to Your Word”.

Discovering Favor:

That simple reply is at the heart of the mystery of answered prayer. Mary came to believe that as a virgin she would become pregnant and give birth to Israel’s long awaited Messiah. There were probably a lot of young Jewish women that might have hoped for that privilege, but Mary didn’t just hope it – she lived it. She knew a secret, because God had revealed His Word to her. Yet, she would come to live it out, only as she discovered her favored estate with God. For Mary to have felt favored by God would seem normal and expected in Jewish households, but a divine revelation from the angel Gabriel would have certainly emphasized its reality.

Favor Establishes Faith:

Now there would be nothing absurd about Mary’s belief in God, because she was finding His favor in His Word to her. It was rooted firmly in the Word of God’s supernatural encounter. God’s Word to her made faith… reality and had made the ridiculous… reasonable. As the angel told her, “With God nothing will be impossible!” I can almost hear a shout of “Amen!” as she embraced the words. “I am Your maidservant! Let it be to me according to Your Word.”

Receive His Favor:

Most of us are not likely to experience a visitation from Gabriel, but we have encounters with the Holy Spirit waiting for our embrace right now. The Bible is filled with words for us from God and there are angels that accompany our activities everyday. As Kingdom Agents, we are designed to walk in the favor of God and establish an atmosphere around our lives that allow His voice to become recognizable.

Like a fragrance, Mary found that favor longs to be discovered. You can be told that it is there, but it must be received and experienced, to be sought out and appreciated. God’s Word to you is like Mary’s secret, dependant upon your willingness to recognize His favor.

Secret of the Glory

“At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from Him, He turned around to the crowd and asked; “Who touched my clothes?”. “You see the people crowding around you – and yet You can ask ‘Who touched Me?’” His disciples asked. But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. The woman came and fell at His feet trembling with fear and told Him the whole truth. He said to her; “Daughter your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering”. (Mk 5:30-34)

This is an amazing story, because Jesus did not walk through the crowd looking for His next victim. There was no deep revelation in His mind that somewhere in the crowd was a woman with an issue of blood. Not at all! Yet that is often how people think of healing. “If only He would get a word for me?” We have seen so much showmanship and we have little understanding of the Glory of God.

Jesus healed all who came to Him, because He carried an anointing that released the perfect will of God (Lk 4:18-21).

Jesus said that He only did what He saw His Father do. Notice: She had heard about Him! She heard that Jesus was healing everyone and that power was going out of Him at the very touch of His garment. Her thought… “If I can just touch the hem of His garment.” What was the secret she understood? It was the secret of the Glory of God. She knew in her heart that God was good and that doctors had failed to cure her.

  • He didn’t pray for this woman.
  • He didn’t give her a healing!
  • He didn’t lay His hands on her.
  • She touched His garment and her faith placed a demand on His anointing… the Glory of God!

You see, the real secret we must uncover in our day is the secret of the Glory of God! The Apostle Paul said, “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19). There are riches in the Glory that are yet untapped, because we have not pressed in to touch, or put a demand upon the anointing that rested on Jesus.

Worship:

When you and I enter His Presence, awaken our senses to the voice of the Holy Spirit and wade into His atmosphere in worship; we are touching spiritual substance. Let me repeat that… “we are touching spiritual substance!” Its unseen with human eyes, but through faith we can navigate through the realms of Glory and fellowship with God. That is the time to put a demand upon the resources made available by the heavenly Promises of God.

Our Inheritance:

Touch the hem of His garment… go ahead and pull upon the rich inheritance He has purchased for you. Don’t wait to get to heaven or hope for a preacher to get a word for you. Your inheritance is for you… even now (Eph 1:13-14) and you can access it by faith today. Tell Jesus the whole story, but then look for His goodness to show up in your need.

He is still asking “Who touched Me?”

God’s Pleasure

“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.” (Eph. 5:17-18)

“For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.” (Ps. 149:4)

“…That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Eph. 3:17-19)

It is important to realize that your pleasure is God’s pleasure, because you are God’s delight. His goal is your heart… to dwell there and to allow His love to find its deepest root system there! He loves you with an unconditional love and all of His thoughts toward you are good (Jer. 29:11). You can’t live beyond God’s knowledge and you can’t hide from His Presence… He will never leave you and He will always be found waiting for you (Isa. 30:18).

7 Things That Bring Pleasure to God:

1. The Prosperity of His People:

  • (Psalm 35:27) Let those who favor my righteous cause and have pleasure in my uprightness shout for joy and be glad and say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, Who takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. (Amplified Version)

2. Ministers Doing His Will:

  • (Psalm 103:21) Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, all you His hosts, you His ministers who do His pleasure. (Amplified Version)

3. Men and Women that Fear Him:

  • (Psalm 147:11) The Lord takes pleasure in those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy and loving-kindness. (Amplified Version)

4. His People Walking by Faith:

  • (Hebrews 11:1-2) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

5. Giving His Kingdom To His Children:

  • (Luke 12:32) Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom! (Amplified Version)

6. Saints Enjoying God’s Fullness:

  • (Ephesians 1:5) For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [ because it pleased Him and was His kind intent (Amplified Version)
  • (Ephesians 1:9) Making known to us the mystery (secret) of His will (of His plan, of His purpose). [And it is this:] In accordance with His good pleasure (His merciful intention) which He had previously purposed and set forth in Him, (Amplified Version)

7. Giving People The Desires of Their Heart:

  • (Philippians 2:13) [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. (Amplified Version)
  • (2 Thessalonians 1:11) With this in view we constantly pray for you, that our God may deem and count you worthy of [your] calling and [His] every gracious purpose of goodness, and with power may complete in [your] every particular work of faith (faith which is that leaning of the whole human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness). (Amplified Version)

No Open Doors

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.” (Eph. 5:8-21)

The Apostle Paul says, “… give no place to the devil” (Eph. 4:27)

As believers in Christ, we must leave no open doors for Satan to have access to our lives! In essence the Apostle Paul is saying, “Don’t give an inch, or the devil will take it all!” We must learn to hold our ground and leave no room for evil. When a person is being harassed by the devil, I believe there is always a reason… its a dominion issue!

Give No “Place”:

Here is an insight I find helpful: the Greek word for ‘place’ – means a legal foothold; an opportunity; a legal right to enter and occupy. Demonic influence comes to occupy unguarded places in our heart and mind. By using spiritual “gateways”, or giving “place” to the devil; we are allowing darkness to have influence in our lives. When we allow darkness to have a voice, we are foolishly beginning to embrace twisted perceptions of reality. The devil’s strategy is simple… he wants to steal, kill and destroy (Jn. 10:9). Evil spirits look for ‘gateways’ to enter and begin to control parts of our life (Jn. 13:27). No matter how the access comes, the goal is to convince the person to walk in spiritual darkness, shame and isolation. The devil’s strategy is for the oppression or “works” to lead us into bondage and corruption. That is why Jesus was manifest on the Earth… to expose and destroy the works of the devil (1 Jn. 3:8). God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power, to restore the sick and troubled people within His reach; by breaking the oppression of the devil (Acts 10:38).

3 Powerful Ways to Shut Open Doors:

1st) Walk as Children of Light!

Recognize whose you are (1 Cor. 3:16)… and walk daily with an awareness of the Holy Spirit’s closeness and the Father’s love covering you. The atmosphere of God’s Presence is permeated with goodness, righteousness and truth. His desire for you is that you live in the Light, walking as Children that have an increasing revelation of God’s hand upon them.

2nd) Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness!

Break the covenant of agreement with unrighteousness. Darkness is a “kingdom” with governing principles, requirements and evil intentions. Its not who you are any longer (Col. 1:13-14)… so begin the New Life (2 Cor. 5:17). Find out what pleases God and enjoy the experience of knowing the Creator of the Universe. This relationship has the potential of satisfying every need of your life and offering you purpose beyond all imagination (Eph. 3:20). The works of darkness offer nothing… they are unfruitful, dead and corrupt.

3rd) Stay filled with the Holy Spirit!

Have some encounters with God. Live under the influence of the Holy Spirit at all times… singing, speaking and submitting to one another in the fear of God. The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom. 14:17). So live like a believing – Believer… keep the songs of the Lord and the worship of Jesus in your heart and mouth. People will recognize your passion… and better yet – you will become a threat to the kingdom of darkness.

Receiving the Prophetic Voice

“Hear me, O Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” (2 Chron 20:20)

I take you back to the time when Jehoshaphat, the son of Asa, was king of Judah and Jerusalem. It was a season of terrible anxiety. The Ammonites and the Moabites had declared war on the people of Judah. Those of Judah were vastly outnumbered and their cause appeared hopeless. Jehoshaphat gathered his people together to plead with the Lord for help. He cried out in prayer:

“O our God, … we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do: but our eyes are upon You.” (2 Chron 20:12)

Then the Prophet Jahaziel spoke into the situation:

“Thus says the Lord to you: Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s… You will not need to fight in this battle: Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you…” (2 Chron 20:15 & 17)

The Prophetic Voice:

These are not just words of encouragement that can make an anxious situation go away. The prophetic activates and releases a platform to position yourself, stand firm and see the supernatural demonstration of God’s hand upon your life. The need to believe God is obvious, but the activity of believing comes from the prophetic voice! Its the strategy for success. Jehoshaphat understood the dilemma, but it was the voice of the prophet that would release the strategies of God’s thought process.

How do we trust when the enemy outnumbers us? How do we respond when the storm outmaneuvers us? How do we know what to do? Believe the voice of the Prophet… for the battle is not yours, the battle is the Lord’s!

Enabled to Prosper:

In this context, God is not speaking about money or wealth, He is speaking about peace or the path that brings us into victory. When we receive the prophetic voice we are enabled to prosper. The word prosper in the Old Testament is the same word as peace or success. Recently I heard someone describe it as a “smooth road”. When in the midst of anxiety and strife; it feels like a rough road, but along the journey of leaning on God’s Will there is a “smooth” road made visible.

Receiving is like Eating:

Jesus said we will enjoy the reward of the prophet, when we receive the voice of the prophet (Mt 10:41). The Greek word “receive” means to take hold of something with the hand, or lay hold of a person or thing in order to use it. It is not passive at all, but active. The starving man who suddenly finds himself receiving a banquet does not sit and wait for the food to jump into his mouth! At the mere mention of the Father’s thoughts; as spoken by the prophet, we are to respond like the starving man… the prophetic is our food and prosperity. We must receive the prophetic voice by taking hold of it and “eating” it (Ezek 3:3)(Rev 10:9). We boldly and aggressively embrace the prophetic, because it will activate faith in the Will of God and cause us to navigate safely through any difficult situation.

“Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)
