DNA for Destiny

“…I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named” (Eph 3:14-15). One of the characteristics of a family is natural blood and the uniqueness of something called DNA. Its what makes the blue eyes; blue, and the brown hair; brown, in each unique family unit. One family might have several tall children and anyone from the outside can say, “I see that you reflect your Daddy’s genes”.

There is a spiritual equivalent to DNA. Being birthed by the Spirit of God into Christ implants the spiritual DNA of God into our blood line as New Creatures.

This Kingdom “blood transfusion” does more than just transform our behavior… it gives us a new name and a real identity with the Father.

Its the family blood line of God by the Spirit of Adoption. By the Holy Spirit, the very life of Christ carrying the spiritual DNA of Father abides within us as true sons. This reality is what the Apostle Paul is hinting at when he says “the family… is named”.

Think about this for a moment… to be “named” is not a simple task. It actually carries our identity… our sense of connectedness to “family”, father & mother and our relational confidence. Who are we really? As parents we name our children before we know them… at the moments just after their birth we look into our family blood line and we pull from our history a name that tells a story. My daughter was named after her grandmother and we had no real desire to change that name simply because she is now taller than her grandmother… its something deeper. Its her connection to our blood… we “named” her.

God has by new birth changed our name and “named” us with His family identity. As His child I am priviledged to carry the name He has given me and reflect all the purpose He has destined for me. The life is in the blood… and its the blood that gives me His name.

They Make Disciples!

Jesus declares, “…on this rock (revelation of Himself) I will build My Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Mt. 16:18-19)

Recently, I went looking for Church.

I met a guy from Uganda who said, “I have a church under a tree.” And that church had planted 6 other churches. And some of those churches had planted dozens of other churches themselves. Today, they have a Bible College that attracts over 200 students. They didn’t have buildings and still have no formal place to call home. They meet in huts and mud houses… and yet the multiplication is nothing short of amazing.

How do they do it… simply put, “They make disciples!”

“That’s all!”

The more we complicate the Kingdom system with programs and buildings, the more we stifle church multiplication. The Word of God and the Spirit of God – that’s all we need.

Living & Active

“I am watching over My Word to perform it” (Jer. 1:12).

When God speaks a Word over your life, He watches over it until the time of its fulfillment. In this prophetic season many are nurturing promise given to them by God years ago. It is time to bring these out again and, together with the Holy Spirit, keep watch over them. That’s how we partner with the Holy Spirit in the fulfillment of God’s prophetic Word to us.

Prophetic Means Activated:

God’s Word is living and active (Heb. 4:12). It is a moving, living resource activated by the authority of God, because it is spoken by His living breath, the Spirit of God or Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul confirms this by saying, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (meaning it is God-breathed), and is profitable (beneficial) for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

The “Now” of God’s Word:

Notice he says “The Scripture is God-breathed”; not, “was God-breathed”. Its a current Word! God’s Word always is in the “Now”. It is being carried upon God’s breath. What He spoke in years gone by is still being spoken. Not a single Word is lost or forgotten.

Every Word has a Timing:

God says He is watching over the Word He has given you: “I am watching over it; like a hen broods over her eggs”. The Hebrew word is shaqad which means “to be alert, to be awake, to be on the lookout”. The purpose of the Word was to release destiny and increase favor. We must become alert and join the watch with Him (Ezek. 3:17-19); interceding in prayer concerning the Word He has spoken over us. We watch with Him in faith, believing that what God has said He has power to fulfill. Every Word of God carries within it the power and authority intended for its fulfillment, because our God is watching to perform it at its appointed time. He will never let His Word fall to the ground.

Awaken the Promise:

God has not forgotten! Have you heard a Word from the Lord today, maybe recently, or perhaps in the midst of a season in the wilderness? God has not forgotten what He said to you. It is time to bring that Word before Him and hold onto it with complete confidence that what He has promised He will bring it to its ultimate fulfillment.

Opening Blind Eyes

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Cor. 2:14)

How do you see things that are invisible? The Bible says that spiritual things must be spiritually discerned (1 Cor. 2:9-16). And I must say, there has never been a time in history when we have needed spiritual discernment more than today. The key is to set our eyes on Christ and be led by the Holy Spirit. Our affections will follow our focus and our lives will conform to what we set our eyes to behold!

Spiritual Eyes:

Remember when the Apostle Paul was commissioned to preach the Gospel, he heard Jesus say “open the eyes of the blind… in order to turn them from darkness to light” (Acts 26:17-18). Obviously, this was not a question of opening physical eyes, but spiritual eyes. His calling was to preach in such a way that people would understand the Word of God, receive forgiveness of sins and find the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. He prays for the Christians in Ephesus, that the eyes of their spiritual understanding may be enlightened to know things that can only be revealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:17-18).

Jesus’ mission was also to open the eyes of the blind. When He quoted Isaiah, He said the Holy Spirit had anointed Him, “to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind” (Lk. 4:18). Jesus did heal blind eyes, but His greatest mission was to transform how people saw (Mt. 4:17). The most important healing comes when a person turns to the Lord and a veil of darkness is lifted from their spiritual understanding (Jn. 3:3)(2 Cor. 3:16-17). Jesus tells us we must be born again… from above!

Blinded by the Devil:

Many people do not understand the meaning of the Gospel; not because they lack intelligence, but because they have no spiritual perception. They are spiritually blind in the sense that they do not understand spiritual things. They are blinded by the god of this age, the devil (2 Cor. 4:4). They may have physical sight. They may have intellectual sight. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they have spiritual sight. They can have perfect “vision” and be blind when it comes to spiritual things. We can be very intelligent, but unable to make sense of spiritual Truth. But when your spirit is revived, you have the capacity to see God and see yourself in relation to His purpose and Glory.

The Church Must Begin to See:

It really is time that the Church begins to see spiritually and live according to the Truth of the Bible. First, we must set our own eyes upon Christ and second, we must begin to fervently intercede for our regions. That the veil of spiritual darkness will begin to be lifted off of those who are lost and blind in unbelief. We have thought for too long that if we could just get the world to agree with us, things would change. But in fact things remain unchanged, because real transformation can only come when we set our eyes upon Christ and He captures our affections.

Activated Promises

“I am watching over My Word to perform it” (Jer. 1:12).

An activated promise is ready to be fulfilled… God is waiting for us to believe!
