His Word to You

Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” (Lk 1:28)

Here we have the amazing story of how Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel who told her she would become the mother of the Messiah. Naturally Mary was shocked and asked how such a thing could be, since she was a virgin. The angel did not go into a longwinded explanation, but simply told her “the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you” (Lk 1:35). That was good enough for Mary and she responded with a powerful declaration of faith: “Let it be to me according to Your Word”.

Discovering Favor:

That simple reply is at the heart of the mystery of answered prayer. Mary came to believe that as a virgin she would become pregnant and give birth to Israel’s long awaited Messiah. There were probably a lot of young Jewish women that might have hoped for that privilege, but Mary didn’t just hope it – she lived it. She knew a secret, because God had revealed His Word to her. Yet, she would come to live it out, only as she discovered her favored estate with God. For Mary to have felt favored by God would seem normal and expected in Jewish households, but a divine revelation from the angel Gabriel would have certainly emphasized its reality.

Favor Establishes Faith:

Now there would be nothing absurd about Mary’s belief in God, because she was finding His favor in His Word to her. It was rooted firmly in the Word of God’s supernatural encounter. God’s Word to her made faith… reality and had made the ridiculous… reasonable. As the angel told her, “With God nothing will be impossible!” I can almost hear a shout of “Amen!” as she embraced the words. “I am Your maidservant! Let it be to me according to Your Word.”

Receive His Favor:

Most of us are not likely to experience a visitation from Gabriel, but we have encounters with the Holy Spirit waiting for our embrace right now. The Bible is filled with words for us from God and there are angels that accompany our activities everyday. As Kingdom Agents, we are designed to walk in the favor of God and establish an atmosphere around our lives that allow His voice to become recognizable.

Like a fragrance, Mary found that favor longs to be discovered. You can be told that it is there, but it must be received and experienced, to be sought out and appreciated. God’s Word to you is like Mary’s secret, dependant upon your willingness to recognize His favor.

A Believing People

Becoming “A Believing People” means we are called to agree with Heaven all the time! We must train our minds to consider that the heavens are open… Jesus opened them (Jn. 1:51). Believers are to live in unique ways… at the “spiritual gates” (places of entry) of Heaven where angels ascend and descend freely on assignment from God. As Kingdom Agents we are called to advance the supernatural ministry of Jesus in all the Earth; doing His will and obeying His voice. Our willingness to flow in the Spirit and train our minds for the administration of God’s increasing Glory connects Heaven (God’s resource) to Earth (the world of need). This principle could not be more clearly understood than when miracles are seen or healing occurs by the work of God in our midst. We must move in faith and we must move swiftly!

When we have minds set against the supernatural work of God and cannot embrace the impossible, then we will host no invasion of Heaven.

The Supernatural is Released through Agreement!

We had a marvelous example of this recently when a man had a heart attack and died in our Sunday morning worship service. Clyde lost his strength and slumped into his seat, while many around him leaped into emergency mode. His breathing was checked and pulse was undetectable… in this moment all of us were aware that this man had just died in our midst. Three men placed Clyde into his car and as the door was about to shut… God spoke…

“Call life back into this limp body.”

As I declared the Words of Heaven my mind was nowhere else but in agreement with the intent of God to raise this man from the dead! This was in no way something I could do in the natural; but agreement with the intent of Heaven gave influence at the gate between Heaven and Earth. Access – was all we needed! The power of God rushed into this impossible situation. Immediately the man came back from death and asked how he got to the car. With an enormous collective gasp of relief from the small group of believers… our hearts were forever positioned with a new perspective!

Clyde testified to the fact that he left his body and then heard someone calling him back. Within the next few moments his strength returned better than before. He re-entered the worship service as if he had been given new energy and a completely new heart. Needless to say – the congregation was amazed and rejoicing to see what God had done in their midst!

“On Earth as it is in Heaven!” – Matthew 6:10

As “A Believing People” our task is to see what is happening in Heaven and begin to pull it into the Earth realm. The only way to know how to function as gatekeepers is to walk in revelation. We must see through the mind of Christ and respond out of the Father’s heart toward the realities of Earth. Jesus said (Jn 3:12) “…how will you believe if I tell you Heavenly things?” It must come by way of revelation through the spiritual realm. Dwelling at the gates of Heaven means we embrace supernatural encounters as normal experience. As these opportunities arise they become an invitation to exercise faith, speak life and enjoy the favor of God’s touch. As Believing People, its revelation knowledge that helps us carry out our assignments from God (Psalm 84). I would rather be a doorkeeper in the House of My God than dwell in the tents of wickedness… for the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord will give grace and glory… no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly (Ps. 84:10-11). He is speaking here of the believing heart!

God is looking for those with loyal hearts – believing hearts – that He can show forth His goodness and release His favor…
All for His Glory!

Beyond the Limits

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)

If you want to experience a fresh reality of life, influenced by the power of God; you need to discover how to live beyond your limitations. There is a Living Resource in Jesus. He is the Christ – the Son of the Living God, mighty to deliver and faithful to strengthen the weary. I can almost hear: “Yeah, that’s easy for you to say. If you were in my situation you would see that it’s not that easy to change things.”

Changing things will not change things!

For most people there is a natural resistance against the unknown, even if it is wanted desperately. People do not like to be where they are… but they are afraid to risk what they have relied upon.

I want to let you know of the 3 things that will limit God’s power in your life and offer you the alternative that will not require you to change anything… God will do it for you! These might feel like baby steps, but they will benefit you and your awareness of God’s activity in your life. Sometimes our biggest hurdle is that we lean on ourselves when we think we are trusting God! So, let these sink in…

1. Fear limits God – So Let God Love You!

When we are afraid we start becoming anxious and reason things out. Fear of men, fear of rejection, fear of success, fear of failure, fear of losing friends, approval or your job, all kinds of fears come to the surface when life gets overwhelming. Let me remind you that love casts out ALL fear! The people who do not know the love of God, fall apart like a house of cards in a wind storm. They cannot handle the weight of adversity, because they cannot trust His care for them. To know God is to allow Him to love you, just as you are… warts and all. You can always tell the size of a man’s character by the size of the problem it takes to discourage him.

2. Unbelief limits God – So Let God Prove Himself!

Unfortunately we live in a culture of unbelief. The news, our friends and family, and even most churches; often speak and act out of unbelief. You may not doubt that God can do amazing things, but you might wonder why He would do anything for you… its about His willingness to do it. Recognize God is willing, because He likes you.

I can have the faith that God can heal, but at the same time not believe that He will do it right here, for me. That is how the leper felt when he asked Jesus if He was willing to heal him (Mk. 1:40-41). Jesus was willing!

I can know that God supplies all my needs, but still not walk in an assurance that He will do it when I’m in a tight spot. That is how the Apostle Paul felt when he was in need (2 Cor. 7:5-7) for when he arrived in Macedonia (Acts 20:1) he had a difficult time “with trouble all round – conflicts outside and anxiety within”. But God, who cheers the depressed, gave him comfort by the arrival of Titus. That encouragement and strength was what the Apostle Paul needed… supernatural grace to reign in life!

3. Disobedience limits God – So Let God Speak to You!

If God tells you to do something – do it, even if it might not look like the smartest thing to do. Who cares about what other people say when you have a word from God? You might need some wisdom in how or when to step up, hut remind yourself that you’re not alone. God can even bless a mistake made out of faith more than a mistake made by doing nothing! If you step across the line and stop over thinking what God should you, you will see His power begin moving in your life.

So get rid of fear and unbelief and be obedient to what He says and you will see greater miracles in your life. You will find yourself trusting in the One who makes the impossible possible… in the One who is always for you!

“And if God be for you who can be against you?” (Rom. 8:31)

The Will to Follow

“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit… was led by the Spirit…” (Lk 4:1)

When you decide to disciple another person, you are basically saying, “Follow me as I follow the Spirit”. You are stepping forward to show other’s the way in which they should be led. So the question begs to be asked, “Who is leading you?” Who are you following? Are you demonstrating a willingness to follow the Holy Spirit. Jesus wisely said, “…if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

Led by the Spirit:

One of the marks of a person who is full of the Holy Spirit is that they are willing to be led by the Holy Spirit. They are involved in receiving the Holy Spirit’s correction, direction and instruction. This cannot be overstated. Being available to go wherever the Spirit leads and do whatever He asks is the model Jesus gave His disciples. Everything in their lives had that undeniable mark of Spirit inspired leadership upon it… this is the anointing.

The Mark of Leadership:

God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38). He affirmed His Father’s priorities and did nothing except what His Father told Him to do. His life was the visible expression of the Father’s Will and the model for true Holy Spirit leadership!

Authentic and Visible:

Being anointed meant Jesus was carrying an active, visible favor in His ministry that demonstrated His Father’s heart in full view of the disciples. Jesus did not fake it, make it up or ask for help from the crowds. He was the real, Good Shepherd. He knew how to live in the secret place of the Holy Spirit’s Presence and release a flowing expression of the Father’s heart. He had no need of a worship team, love offering or altar call to stir the faith of crowds or critics.

Why did so Many Follow?

People wanted to follow Jesus, because He was the greatest example of sonship ever seen. The Apostle John says it best when he opens his letter to the churches. “That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship (follower-ship) with us; and truly our fellowship (follower-ship) is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.” (1 Jn 1:3-4)

The Time for Breakthrough

Becoming a “Gateway People” means we are called to agree with Heaven all the time… to train our minds to be “at the gates” (those places of entry) of Heaven where angels ascend and descend freely on assignment from God.
